iPhone: Why Am I Receiving Text Messages from My Other iPhone Account User? The iMessage Mixup.

So, you're sending text messages to your friends, and you find out your partner, parent or child is getting all the messages you're sending out. Maybe they told you. Maybe not.... Kind of an uncomfortable situation. That can be easily fixed.

Apple has a message sharing feature called iMessage (such a clever name, right?). It's confusing, but allows your Apple devices to share texting accounts.

If you and your partner/husband/wife/children share a single iTunes account, then this can cause problems where you will receive messages that another person sent, or vice versa. This can happen despite having different phone numbers.

Sometimes, after an iOS update maybe, your phone settings will change and you'll see a weird message saying your sharing information now from your other phone number or email. It's random and messed up.

So, what you need to do is:

  • Go to you iPhone [Settings] button.
  • Go the [Messages] section.

Here, you have a couple choices.

1. Turn off iMessage.

or

2. Keep iMessage on, and go down to the [Send and Receive] section.

This is where the problem with messages crossover occurs.
You may see that there are multiple phone number and/or multiple email addresses listed.
Each one may or may not have a check mark next to them.
One of them will be your phone's number.
And one will be the shared email account.
Others will be your other users's accounts

Uncheck everything but your own phone number, and maybe your own single email address.

That should put a stop to the messages going to your shared account phones. But, check it to make sure.

A similar odd occurrence may affect your FaceTime accounts. To fix that, you have to separately go to: [Settings] > [FaceTime] and scroll down to the area where you can uncheck the wrong accounts again.

iPhone Video has No / Low Audio

We have an iPhone 4, and for months there has been no audio with the video. I just tested it again, and the audio is there, but it is very faint.

The solution is quite easy.

  • Look at the top of your phone.
There is a headphone jack on the left side.
Right next to that jack is a small hole.
That hole is the microphone used for video.

Problem #1 -- Hole is Covered
  • If that hole is covered by a protective skin, remove the skin.
  • Try recording without the skin.
Problem #2 -- Dirt in Hole
  • Get a thin pin or needle.
  • Use the pin to clean dust or dirt out of that little microphone hole (but don't push far into the hole or you may damage the microphone).
  • Blow into the hole with a puff or two.
  • Test a recording of your video again.
Worked like a charm for us.

How to see and stop programs running in the background of my iPhone/iPad? Multitasking and the app switcher

You say that you love you iPhone and/or iPad, but the battery doesn't seem to last very long?
And you might be thinking, "I wonder if there's apps or programs running in the background that can be shut down."

How do you know if there's unwanted applications draining your battery power and slowing down your iPhone or iPad?

It's easy.

You're going to use a built-in function called the multitasking bar, (aka "app switcher)". You do not need to install another app to do this.
  • Activate your device (turn the power on, move the on-screen sliding switch if it's locked, and enter your password if necessary).
  • Click the home button twice quickly (the round physical button at the bottom of your phone or pad).
Whatever is on the screen should slide up.
One or more icons will be showing at the bottom of the screen now.
These are the programs that are currently running or are "running in the background."
  • Slide the buttons to the left, you may see lots more icons from programs that you've run in the recent (or distant) past.
  • Slide back all the way to the right, you will see volume and or brightness controls. (Reduce the brightness level to a lower, but tolerable level to save on some battery power if you like.)
So, you want* to close some of those background programs. To do so:
  • Press and hold one of the icons until they all start to jiggle around.
  • You will see a red circle with a minus sign over each program.
  • Tap on that red circle to close each unwanted program.
  • When you're done, tap the home button again to go back to normal operation of your iPhone or iPad.
* You may want to keep some of these programs running in the background so that they will check for notifications or incoming calls. The truth is, not all of these  programs are running and taking up battery power, memory and processing power. They may just be markers of recently used programs. And the app icons are listed left (for most recently used) to right (previously used).

There are other ways to improve your battery power. Try these from Apple.

ATTACH PHOTO to email on iPhone

I saw someone get shot yesterday. It was jarring, but like any good blogger, I whipped out my iPhone and started taking pictures. (The man will be fine, btw.)

I tried to e-mail the best one to photos to a couple of news sites using the iPhone. After I found their e-mail (hard-to-find) addresses, I clicked on them and up popped the iPhone's e-mail client.

THE iPHONE E-MAIL CLIENT HAS NO ATTACH BUTTON (at this time - July 2012).
You have 2 options to add a photo to an e-mail.

OPTION #1 --
Click on the Camera icon.
Find the photo you want to send on the Camera Roll.
Hit the little "arrow in a box" icon at the bottom of the screen.
Click [E-mail Photo].

OPTION #2 --
Click on the Camera icon.
Find the photo you want to send on the Camera Roll.
Press and hold down on the photo for 2 seconds.
Up pops a [Copy] button. Tap it.
Hit the return to desktop button on your iPhone.
Click on the Mail Icon.
Tap the little [pencil in a box] icon in the bottom right corner.
There are three fields -- To:, Cc/Bcc:, and Subject:.
Below that is a blank spot for the body section of the e-mail.
Press and hold 2 seconds in that body section.
A menu will pop up with the option to [Paste]. Tap it.

From this point, just tap in the e-mail address, a subject, and your message above or below the photo, and you are good to go.
